PLOT AND SUMMARY:

Listening to the catchy and offbeat "O Womaniya" and trying to remember and re-live the "Amazing Experience" of watching this eccentric cult master-piece from the immensely talented director Anurag Kashyap. Some call him Bollywood's own Tarantino, with his movies showing a great influence of Scorsese, Tarantino style movie making.

What makes this movie so exemplary is the Brilliant script, Amazing cinematography, fabulous performances by the ensemble cast, great and unconventional background music and terrific dialogues. Manoj Bajpayee plays the role of Sardar Khan with such ease that it is a treat to watch the highly talented actor play out the nuances of the character, like in the picture shown below "busy teasing reema sen (durga his bengali second wife in the movie)".

The movie is set in rural bihar Wasseypur distt. Dhanbad, covering the time period from 1940's british ruled India to late 1990's. The plot basically is revenge centered, among two families/groups of the Coal-Mafia gangs prevalent in those regions which is carried forward from one generation to the other. With Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) pledging to not grow his hair back till he achieves revenge of his father Shahid Khan's (Jaideep Ahlawat) murder from MLA Ramadhir Singh (played brilliantly by Tigmanshu Dhulia). Other note-worthy performances are the role of Sardar Khan's wife Naghma played impressively by Richa Chadda and Sardar Khan's younger son Faizal Khan played by the skilled actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Few short-comings of the movie are that the relationships shown throughout the movie tend to become confusing, and the movie at 2 hours 40 minutes becomes a tad long by the end.

Like Tarantino, Kashyap also uses the Music of the film as a great weapon, being totally offbeat but at the same time fits perfectly into the plot. With tracks like "O Womaniya" and "Keh ke lunga" being my personal favorite. The movie already has won many a hearts at prestigious film festivals across the globe like Cannes where the full 5 and a half hour movie was screened. Whereas we will have to wait desperately for the second part of this classic.

PS: Although much evident with the "A" Censor Ratings, still this is definitely not a family movie, neither you should take your girl along (my advice). There is an abundant use of slangs, violence and bloodshed throughout the movie.
